Properties
CROSS-LAMINATED TIMBER OR X-LAM IS A MULTI-LAYERED, COMPLETELY SOLID PANEL
- Cross-laminated from 15-45mm solid spruce boards to a thickness of 70mm–350mm.
¨ Lengths up to 12m, widths up to 3.8m. Standard length 12m, standard widths 1.25m and 2.25m.
¨ Excellent dimensional stability due to cross-lamination.
¨ 99.4% renewable timber, 0.6% formaldehyde-free glue.
¨ CLT insulates and is load-bearing at the same time.
¨ Simple planning and building. All aspects are easily completed using the same material.
¨ Spectacular and economical projects are possible due to the available dimensions and load-bearing
capabilities of cross-laminated timber.
Cross-laminated timber burns at a rate of 0.67mm per minute and therefore the duration of the fire can be exactly calculated. The element connections are impervious to gas and smoke and the fire cannot spread. The CLT module acts like a capsule in the case of fire . A rapid spread of the fire is prevented due to the solid and secure construction. The fire remains in the room.
Most fire victims do not die from burns, but from smoke inhalation and gas poisoning.
All longitudinal layers of the elements are manufactured from single-ply boards. Therefore, the fire must compete against solid wood without grooves on every part of the element.
The whole construction is impervious to gas and smoke.

CLT buildings are assembled out of panels with a limited width. The panels are joined together with mechanical fasteners such as metal plates, ring nails or self-drilling screws.
The great number of mechanical connections enhances ductility and increases the building's ability to dissipate energy created by earthquakes or cyclones, without losing its structural integrity.
